Calendar Girl Blog: Happy Customer

I'm still recovering from having 200 people stream through my house on Sunday. Not that that was bad. But it was unusual and intense.

So by way of talking a breather, I will share this great email that I got this morning.

Sue, the calendars arrived this morning. Thanks for a very speedy transaction. When I saw the package at the post office I immediately opened it and showed it to the postmaster and our rural mail delivery person, both young mothers. They had a look and were impressed with what they saw.

Now....the calendar is beautiful. One copy is going in our kitchen and the other is going to my sister. Our Mom has lived breast cancer for over 35 years so anything I can do to help find a cure is good. I also believe strongly that our society has a very messed up view of women's breasts that needs to be changed.

I believe that you are helping on both fronts so keep doing what you're doing.

Calendar Girl likes getting emails like this. Or is that obvious?

Turning The Page

As the monthly thrill of anticipation arrived and we turned the page to December we were reminded that that it is time to get the wraps off BOC 2006. However we still have a few weeks left to enjoy and ponder the message of Mrs and Miss December.

BOC has many powerful messages and this one we felt was a strong reminder that breast and body awareness, and concern starts at birth.

It also tackles another important issue for those who would blithely and ignorantly label BOC as pornography. Did the Ms' December think it was pornography? Certainly not, I am sure it never entered their heads, they were concerned about far more positive things.

We were reminded of the common message associated with depictions of the human body, that 'all models are over the age of 18'. We wonder, rather sadly, what sort of message does that give to children?

Precisely the wrong one in our opinion. We congratulate Calendar Girl for continuing to fearlessly explore who we are and what our bodies mean. We look forward to more depictions of families sharing their and her messages.

Happy December Sue, and thanks for all the beautiful thoughts and images over the past year.

Dear L and M,

The proliferation of kiddy porn on the www make spreading a breast health and body positive message to girls a tricky path to walk. So yes, I have an 18 year old model cut off point. And yes I am the publisher so can bend that rule. But I also do not want to bite off more than I can chew. Dipping below the mature adult age bracket opens a different, large can of worms that could be quite a mouthful.

Besides a burnt out Calendar Girl would mean no more calendars. Then no one wins then.

Thank you for loving the calendar.
