Calendar Girl Blog: Orangeness Day

The first of several 'made for Breast of Canada calendar dates' is just around the corner.

January 26th is Orangeness Day. Here's the history. I thought it would be fun. Then I published the date on the calendar. Simply put - Orangeness Day is a day to celebrate the colour orange. Wear orange. Be orange. Think orange. Eat an orange.

Please accept this post as your invitation to participate.

Second, I'm hoping to feature Orangeness Day photos on Calendar Girl Blog and if you're in Guelph, Ontario Canada on this blog too. Currently I'm spreading the word via Flickr, the social photo sharing site I love. If you want to be part of this orange grooviness - join Flickr - it's free - upload your orange photos and tag them: Orangeness Day.

Then I'll blog some of your captures with photo credit and link back.

Calendar Girl did not get permission from 'the people who deem which days are meant for celebration' because she didn't ask. It's true. Calendar Girl can be a bit of a rebel.

I like this idea. I'll see what I can come up with.

As it happens, January 26th is also Australia Day. This is a day where we are supposed to celebrate Australia and we do do a fair bit of that.

Unfortunately, the day commemorates the day in 1788 when Captain Arthur Phillip took formal possession of the colony of New South Wales and became its first Governor.

A lot of us are unhappy that this fails to recognise the long history of the original inhabitants of this great land.

Anyway - enough of that - back to being orange.

Well if ever there was a continent that could be described as 'orange' Oz would get the top prize.

Thanks so much for pointing out the happy coincidence Chris.
