Calendar Girl Blog: 2007 Launch Media Release

6Th Annual Breast of Canada Calendar Launch
features the
Avant Breast Art Auction

The 2007 Breast of Canada Calendar launch takes place on September 29, at the Guelph Youth Music Centre in conjunction with the Avant Breast Art Auction. Created by Jen Turnbull, Avant Breast is designed to raise additional funds and awareness for the Breast of Canada Calendar and associated charity the Canadian Breast Cancer Network.

Turnbull’s concept for Avant Breast encouraged the creation of art that incorporated breasts into the making of the work. The name Avant Breast is a spin on "avant-garde", defined as: A group or work that is innovative or inventive on one or more levels: subject, medium, technique, style, or relationship to context. An avant-garde work pushes the known boundaries of acceptable art sometimes with revolutionary, cultural, or political implications.

Leading up to the auction, the Avant Breast artwork is on display in various locations around Guelph for the community to enjoy. Check out the windows of Wyndham Art Supplies, And Venus Smiled and Stelle. Contributing local artists include Sarah Palmer, Goldie Sherman, Tammy Wrice, Grayden Laing, Simon Fleming, Greg Denton, Aimee Charbonneau, Anne Hansen, Anwen Sutherland, Madeleine Bachan Kaur and Bunny Safari.

Please join calendar publisher Sue Richards along with celebrity auctioneer Stacey Hare, of Rogers Television’s "First Local", for this fantastic event. This is your opportunity to purchase a unique and beautiful painting, sculpture or fashion accessory and support a worthy cause!

Calendar Girl would like to thank the owners of Wyndham Art Supplies, And Venus Smiled and Stelle for displaying the artworks in their windows.... plus Moffitt Print Craft for generously donating poster printing. And what a pleasure it's been to learn more about Evelyn Ayre's Round Toit T-Shirt Gallery and be given one of the swell tees to auction!

Of course where would Calendar Girl be without Ms. Turnbull.... a true joy to work with, full of ideas and good energy.... and the artists, some of whom Calendar Girl has had the pleasure of working with in the past, some who live on her street and a couple who are new acquaintances. Ms. Hare, Guelph's darling of the cable world is a riot and will no doubt bring much fun into the evening of art selling and breast talking.

Calendar Girl hopes you will consider attending our annual function. You can dress up or down.... or somewhere in between.
