Calendar Girl Blog: Fax Facts

You may recall my plaintive call for a slightly used fax machine a couple weeks back. As suggested by Chris, a friend and I tried setting up my computer to receive with no luck. Following this frustrating failure, I asked around my circle. Zip, nada, no fax no where. So when I ran out of printer ink late yesterday afternoon I started thinking I should just buy a damn fax machine while I'm in the office supply store and get it over with.

I cruised over to the aisle, looked at the faxes in stock and waited for one of the usually very attentive staff to help me out. After about 10 minutes no one came by, so I gave up, paid for my ink jets and left. When I got home I had a couple of minutes to spare before rushing up to the university for a radio interview at CFRU. As I was just about to leave the house, a big white truck pulled up out front. I figured the neighbour had a delivery of something and continued getting my stuff together.

Well imagine my surprise when the nice man with the big box knocked on my door!

In the few minutes I had before running off, I was able to confirm that the box held one Brother phone/fax/copier/printer. New. Brand New!

Upon my return, I was able to determine the identity of the generous provider of my newest, most comprehensive office equipment to date. Both a blog reader and a calendar owner, my fax machine angel is most appreciated.

As my luck continued to hold, I had a date with an equally techno-challenged friend last night. After we returned from our hot and sour soup feast, he was very happy to muddle through the set-up with me. I have an instant fear of new machines that I eventually get over, but not until I torture myself for a few day..... weeks. It was very nice not to experience the angst this time round.

The other excellent piece to my office equipment puzzle is the fact that the unit can also be a printer as already mentioned. Although my printer still works (15 years old) and is currently outfitted with fresh ink, it HAS been acting up lately. So there is one less worry for this small time publisher.

Calendar Girl hopes that by sharing this example of generosity others might be encouraged to ask for what they need and give what can be given.

Calendar Girl gave the delivery guy her pen. The previous customer had bagged his.
