Calendar Girl Blog: End of 2007 Calendar Season

I have some good news. I'm unofficially sold out of 2007 calendars. This means I have about 2 dozen left - and I'm no longer going to make any concerted effort to sell them simply because I know they will be gone eventually. Hell people were still buying the 2006 edition in December. There's no reason to believe that 2007 will be any different.

With this point finally reached, the calendar business portion of my daily life is taking a break - considering I don't need to start hustling up 2008 edition for a couple of months.

Until then, Calendar Girl will not be blogging this blog daily - or even weekly. Indeed Calendar Girl will likely be unplugged until sometime in April. Unless of course Oprah calls. Or leaves a comment. Calendar Girl would certainly reconsider her sabbatical for Oprah. Shameless, I know.

But fret not. She will still be blogging here, way over here and with some frequency here.

Thanks to everyone that helped make 2007 such a stellar success.

Calendar Girl Blog: Bra-soleum

Just in time for Dead Bra Day, the bOOb Lady has provided a place for our dearly departed over shoulder boulder holders to rest.

Please visit the Bra-soleum and pay your respects.

May thy stretched, stained bras rest in pieces.

Calendar Girl would encourage you to poke through the bOOb Ladies very fun and informative site. She too is a Breast Ambassador!

Calendar Girl Blog: Orangeness Day is Coming

Hot Sarong, originally uploaded by Sue Richards.

If it's not on your calendar ( ?????????) then get yourself a pen and write this down.

Friday, January 26th is Orangeness Day. Everywhere.

Dress. Eat. Think. Be. Orange.

It's true that Calendar Girl did make this up. But what difference does that make?

Calendar Girl Blog: Dead Bra Day

I've just finished a lengthy interview with Cheryl Rossi from The Vancouver Courier about the soon-to-be-here Dead Bra Day.

That's right people. Dead Bra Day is February 13th - which gives you plenty of time to ferret out those skanky old bras and plan your celebration. Grab your girlfriends and take time to bid farewell to the cups that no longer hold your jugs in the manner they deserve. Party, sing, do the Dead Bra Reel but most of all - have fun. If so inclined, tell me how you celebrated.

Should you want to replace your Dead Bras with say New Bras, or if you feel the urge to read about bras and their history then check out my Dead Bra Day lens.

Calendar Girl will post a link to the Vancouver Courier Story when it appears.

Calendar Girl Blog: Ottawa Folklore Centre

Time for me to draw attention to yet another loyal Breast of Canada calendar sponsor.

I had the pleasure of meeting Arthur McGregor four year's ago at the Prairie Music Week Conference in Winnipeg Manitoba. At least the flesh and body of Arthur. We'd been doing business for at least a decade before our face off - he as the entrepreneur owner of the Ottawa Folklore Centre - me as the artist manager, agent, publicist, record label distributor of several Canadian folk/roots acts.

After putting his face to the name while sitting at one of those "How Not To Loose All Your Money On Your Folk Music Career" seminars that every decent music conference offers, we hit it off like butter and toast. Although I was attending the event as the weekend manager for my talented friend Tannis Slimmon, I came with a briefcase full of Breast of Canada calendars.

I have a reputation that I've added to for much of my life. It goes like this. I am not a one trick pony. So when people inquire with a sincere "what are you up to beside 'this' "(this being what appears obvious) I'm quick to fill in the blanks.

I instantly offered up a calendar.

As life would have it, Arthurs' wife and business partner of over 20 years had just died from breast cancer.

The Ottawa Folklore Centre has been a major sponsor of the calendar ever since.

Calendar Girl remembers clearly how important that moment was. She'd heard many reasons from many possible sponsors why sponsorship of Breast of Canada was not possible. To have someone belly up, with cheque in hand as easily as Arthur offered his help provided much needed faith.

Calendar Girl Blog: Orangeness Day

The first of several 'made for Breast of Canada calendar dates' is just around the corner.

January 26th is Orangeness Day. Here's the history. I thought it would be fun. Then I published the date on the calendar. Simply put - Orangeness Day is a day to celebrate the colour orange. Wear orange. Be orange. Think orange. Eat an orange.

Please accept this post as your invitation to participate.

Second, I'm hoping to feature Orangeness Day photos on Calendar Girl Blog and if you're in Guelph, Ontario Canada on this blog too. Currently I'm spreading the word via Flickr, the social photo sharing site I love. If you want to be part of this orange grooviness - join Flickr - it's free - upload your orange photos and tag them: Orangeness Day.

Then I'll blog some of your captures with photo credit and link back.

Calendar Girl did not get permission from 'the people who deem which days are meant for celebration' because she didn't ask. It's true. Calendar Girl can be a bit of a rebel.

Calendar Girl Blog: Ms. January

I had the pleasure of chatting with Ms. January this morning. After asking her how she was enjoying her month of anonymous fame she told that despite keeping mum about her modeling effort, everyone recognized her in the photograph.

"How"? I inquired.

"My goat", she explained. "Everyone knows my goat".

Apparently 'Ali' the goat is 3 years old and quite a milk producing maid - offering up to 6 - 8 liters a day.

Calendar Girl was remiss! She should have included Ali's particulars in the calendar along with the other Ms. January!

Calendar Girl Blog: Sentex Communications

Way back when the earth was flat, I decided to join the new and wildly exciting world wide web. With no real clue as to what I was doing, I signed on to a local internet provider - Sentex Communications. That was 1994.

Thirteen years later, Sentex continues to offer me excellent service. I suspect I'm a rare case in the world of 'low price offers'. With considerable regularity, other providers dangle deals in my face. But the thought of leaving a company that has never caused me a moment of upset is simply not my idea of wise.

Beyond the "never had a bad experience" reasons are the many good experiences I've enjoyed. Sentex tech support is truly supportive. They answer the phone. And they respond to email queries. Everything works.

A few year's back I approached Sentex and asked if they would be willing to sponsor the Breast of Canada Calendar by way of bartering internet service for a sponsor credit. They agreed and have continued to agree to this deal since 2004.

This arrangement fits beautifully with the nature of Breast of Canada. It is a localized initiative with a global application. Sentex exists in my backyard yet is able to help me reach a world market. With their ongoing support, I can think local and act global.

For multiple reasons, Calendar Girl would not hesitate to suggest Sentex Communications. If you do decide to check out their service - please tell them Calendar Girl sent you.

Calendar Girl Blog: Last Box

I have one lonely box of calendars sitting in my dining room. There are still a few loose copies floating around - at least until I make my post office run today - but loose copies are not remotely the same as a box full.

I've pinched myself several times to confirm my awake-ness. Even bruised there is still one box left.

One.

Calendar Girl remembers the year when there were 360 boxes left. That year she cried. Funny - this year she feels like crying too. Different flavoured tears though.

Calendar Girl Blog: Unhappy Recipient Part Two

After a lengthy interview with CBC followed by the reporter finding a single unsold calendar in her city and reviewing the effort, the giver of the gift was contacted.

She was horrified by the outcome of her gift to her mother. Then the mom started to back track and the story suddenly took on a pathetic tone.

Fortunately good sense reigned and the idea was dropped.

Calendar Girl realizes that some people are offended by the calendar. No doubt having them pop up on the landscape every now and then helps keep her humble and on track.

Calendar Girl Blog: Unhappy Recipient

An unhappy recipient of a Breast of Canada calendar called me yesterday to complain. Despite my effort to explain the concept behind the project, the woman's mind was clearly made up. I was polite and respectful despite being told that I was "very well trained in my answers."

This morning I've been called by CBC Windsor. Apparently the unhappy recipient has taken her displeasure farther.

Why she would not simply return the calendar to the person that gave it to her is a mystery to me.

Calendar Girl knows that no press is bad press. And she is clear in her belief about the calendar. But still..... it's been a long hard year of effort. Calendar Girl had hoped to ease out of the 2007 calendar season gently.

Calendar Girl Blog: Countdown!

With less than 100 calendars left, my dining room/shipping department looks quite different from previous years.

I will not be reducing the price of the 2007 calendar - ever - so if you still want one, do place your order . I'll be swift with the shipping.

Calendar Girl hopes you enjoy Happy Everything for the next year.
