Calendar Girl Blog: Art or Pornography?

RED HAIRED WOMAN IN THE BATH
Painter: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
Is this painting pornography? (FYI: The image does not seem to like Explorer. Netscape is fine though.)
Calendar Girl is curious simply because Breast of Canada has been called porn by more than a few.

Porn is where you find it... and some people are just always looking for it. Makes me wonder what the reaction whould be to REAL porn... Scary or Funny? A bit of both i think...
The image link didn't work Sue.
People who regard the Breast of Canada as porn have issues around sexuality. I'm not sure what it would be for women For men it would be around their own unease with the feelings they experience when they see nudity and their inability to appreciate beauty and sexuality at the same time.
I know this. I have been there and to a much lesser extent than in the past, still fall into that trap.
Sue,
Calling Renoir's work or your calendar pornography tells me a lot more about the person making the comment than about the work. I think we will not convert those people to our view, no matter how hard we try, so we should ignore them and present our ideas to people who have an open mind. And I bet there are enough of those to keep us busy for a long time.
This 'thing' (pornography) seems to be a persistent topic. While it potentially may hurt sales and dissemination of a valuable tool in gender liberation, I suspect the best tactic is too ignore it and press on.
The opposite is unthinkable, and we must recognise that silencing the message is inherent in the accusations.
'Pornography' is a very useful term of abuse for something we don't like or cannot handle, and has been abused to the extent of becoming meaningles, like a mother photographing her children in the bath. Breast of Canada is as about as pornographic as a Fairy Tale.
Renoir like thousands of other artists celebrated beauty as we all should.
Thank you Sue, for enhancing the world we live in and for making women feel accepted for who and what they are.
