Calendar Girl Blog: Turning the Page

Finally, I have turned the page of my calendar to this month.

This is the lovely image that greeted me.

Melanie Gillis took this photo of two sisters, breastfeeding, hands entwined. Mom reports that she loves the closeness of feeding her two daughters together.

Just in case you weren't sure what the natural function of a woman's breast is, this image should make it clear.

Calendar Girl believes anyone who finds breastfeeding in public to be "offensive" should look in the mirror and ask themselves why.

This is a truly beautiful image.

It's a pity more men don't get to see women breastfeeding.

I've posted more comments here.

Well we might agree with the general sentiment, but we would go further and say that it is a pity more people don't get to see breastfeeding - men, women and children. It is after all a family activity.

We also think (once again!) that Chris is being a bit hard on men. We beleive that everyone derives pleasure from seeing breasts, but as an aesthetic experience of something of beauty both in its structure and function (thousands of artists can't be wrong!).

Thus we cannot accept that seeing a breast makes men invariably think of sex. In fact, strictly speaking, the breast has nothing to do with sex. Yes, physical contact with the breast in moments of intimacy can be a pleasurable experience for a woman, but then so can many if not all parts of the female human body, in which the 'erogenous zone' is much more diffuse, and much less genital centred than in the male.

So we congratulate Sue in paving the way to ensure that more people think of breasts in a different light and see more of breasts and breastfeeding.
